‘Growing up I didn’t have the best childhood. To take my mind off of the things going on at home, I become obsessed with the occult and all things death related. I started to become involved in witchcraft doings spells, rituals, and channeling energy,’ said Rodney Shamblin,
‘At one point I wrote out a contract “selling my soul” to the devil and signed it in my blood.’
Like many, once such doors are opened, they lead into more and more darkness.
‘A few years later I got into paranormal investigations. I began to communicate with and channel spirits (demons). Several years after that I become obsessed with native American spirituality. I would burn sage to “cleanse” rooms, I would pray to the sun and moon, I worshiped nature and creation instead of the creator.’
Further Darkness.
Many precious people involved in such things, begin to suffer in various ways. Rodney was no exception.
‘During all of this I was battling severe depression, rage, and having suicidal thoughts.’
‘My wife walked in on me having a breakdown.
Salvation.
Someone had invited her to church earlier that day so she suggested we go. She basically had to force me to go to church that day.’
‘But that day changed my life. I don’t remember what was preached that day. All I know is that God radically saved me.’
Like many others who experience Jesus for the first time, Rodney Shamblin, suddenly felt that God loved him and he was not worthless. He just knew that God had a plan for his life!
Transformation.
‘I immediately gave my life to Christ. And I’ve never been the same.’
Ministry Helping Others.
‘My wife and I now run a street ministry. Reaching those in the darkest place and sharing the love of Christ.’
Final Words.
‘I’ve truly went from summoning demons to casting them out in the name of Jesus. And I’m so thankful for his love, forgiveness, and grace.’
Rodney closes his testimony with a faveourite scripture for many of us.

Live as children of light, (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth), and find out what pleases the Lord. I asked author of When Dark Paths Meet, to reflect upon Halloween, having left witchcraft, spiritualism and satanism. He kindly shared the following.
‘This is what I usually tell people when they ask me about Halloween. It is seemingly an “innocent” holiday, but I call it a gateway to spiritual darkness.
Costumes are not evil. In fact a costume party can be fun, little princesses, cowboys, robots, or super heroes to name a few. Pumpkins, even carved with some artistic design, are not evil. I love pumpkin pie and pumpkin seeds.
Candles, any color, are not evil. They can set the mood for a romantic dinner or be used for light when the electricity goes out. Jewelry is not evil. There is nothing wrong with a wedding ring or a nice necklace.
However, it is what you are promoting, or condoning with these items, separately, or together that makes it evil.
Halloween celebrates ghosts, death, satanism, witchcraft, and any form of occultism. Jack-o-lanterns, black, and sometimes red candles, witch’s clothing, and pentagrams used during the Halloween festivities, all promote the spiritual forces of evil.
I strongly suggest you and your children not participate in this. Doing so, even just for fun, could, and most likely will open spiritual doors in your life that you do not want. If you are a child of God, I suggest you set aside this day, this Halloween, to pray for those whose eyes are blind and ears are deaf.’

As an ex-occultist myself, I have joined in with one of the many thousands of seances happening around the world on the night of, and days surrounding, Halloween. We are called to be the light amongst the dark. We are supposed to bring news of life over death,’ wrote Demi, an Ex Satanist.
I asked Demi to write an article on Halloween. As an Ex Spiritualist, I, Laura Maxwell, share her views. Like her, when I left the occult and came to Jesus, I was utterly shocked and dismayed how many Christians practice, or are indifferent to Halloween, Day Of The Day, and similar events around this season.
A Christian’s Involvement In Halloween.
We are approaching that time of year where the nights get darker, our clothes get thicker, and the movies get spookier. With this, comes that often dividing, question as to whether or not Christians should celebrate Halloween. Is it all just a bit of harmless fun for the kids? Is it ok to dress up as long as the costumes are not horror-related? Or should we stay away altogether?
One of the first major changes that came to my heart after I left the occult was that I no longer desired to be involved with anything horror related: no more scary movies, no more dark clothing and especially no more Halloween.
No one had told me this is how I ought to live my life now that I was living for Christ, rather this is how God had worked in me.
The closer I drew to God, the more His spirit convicted me of anything that was not pure, or life giving, or glorifying to Him.
And the more I read scripture, the more this conviction was backed up by The Word itself. In Ephesians 5:11 we read, ‘Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them’ and ‘Be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own’ (Leviticus 20:26).
The message of being ‘set apart’ from the ways of the world and to be the ‘light’ is emphasised by God time and time again.We are told to do everything for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31) and so once I discovered the participation of Halloween was a debate amongst Christians, I was shocked!
It only takes one glance down the Halloween decoration aisle to see what is being glorified by this celebration; I do not see the Glory of God in a disfigured and demonic mask, nor do I see His Light being displayed by the celebration of death and darkness.
Though it is not the fake spiders, monstrous pumpkins or even the creepy masks that make Halloween an unfruitful holiday. Behind the ‘innocent fun’ of trick-or-treating, free sweets and costume parties, is a celebration rooted in paganism, satanic rituals, witchcraft and sacrifices. These may sound like fictional tales or acts of the past, but it is an important truth that Christians should be aware of.
Even to this day, many new believers in Christ are speaking out on the horrors they witnessed during their time in the occult, and especially the significance of these events on Halloween night. As an ex-occultist myself I have joined in with one of the many thousands of seances happening around the world on the night of, and days surrounding, Halloween.
If you’re a Christian looking for a way to get involved with Halloween this year, here is what you can do: PRAY!
Pray for the children, adults and animals who are being sacrificed.
Pray for the lost souls involved in all forms of witchcraft and the occult.
Pray for the confused and broken hearted trying to reconnect with their dead loved ones.
And pray for the children who pass your door.
If you choose to engage with them, turn this into a Gospel opportunity. How can you show them Jesus in the midst of their darkness?
We are called to be the light amongst the dark. We are supposed to bring news of life over death. But you don’t have to listen to me, or any ex-occultist who shares their story online or in the media. I pray if you are seeking guidance on this subject, that you read The Word for yourself and bring it before God. For I am convinced that the God of Isaiah 5:20 is the same God of today.
‘Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.’

Donnie’s involvement in spiritualism began when a spirit, disguised as his deceased grandfather, offered to give him popularity with his peers, and guide him in daily life as his ‘spirit guide.’ Donnie opened himself to the paranormal. Eventually, he was attacked and scratched by spirits. He had blackouts when he didn’t know what he’d done.
His sister had a Satanic Bible. Together they’d cast spells on people.
He became suicidal and soon, the spirits were exposed for what they really were, demons/familiar spirits, as described in the Bible! Donnie left the occult, accepting Jesus!
The demons were cast out at Jesus name and the demonic harassment ended. PRAISE GOD!

“As Halloween approaches again, the October issue of Good News outreach newspaper features two ex-witches who warn that spirits and spells are dangerously deceptive,” the Good News Facebook post stated.
‘I was delighted to obtain several copies of this edition in Scotland, as my American friendCarrie Christian, former Coven Priestess, is featured in it’, wrote Ex Spiritualist Laura Maxwell.
ALL TRICK AND NO TREAT.
“A former High Priestess of a coven says she only found peace after an encounter with God, and a woman recalls how she was healed of an incurable disease after turning from witchcraft to Jesus,” the post continues.
Carrie Christian says that a school friend who showed her how to make a Ouija board and how to use it, and then she progressed to séances, tarot, spirit writing and scything, “it all seemed so natural to me, so I felt as if this was the path I needed to pursue religiously and that I had a natural zeal for witchcraft. My curiosity grew stronger as I got older and I started the path of wicca, but quickly grew tired of it as my craving for witchcraft was leading me into a more intense service.”
After 23 years Carrie was left tormented and depressed; unable to sleep without alcohol, she put a gun in her mouth to try to kill herself many times, but didn’t do it.
But “I joined a class where there was a pastor. I never told him who or what I was, but he would go out of his way to find me and simply say three simple words: ‘Jesus loves you!” He also persisted in inviting her to church.
Her next ritual turned out to be the last she ever performed. As she was getting it all ready, “before I could even speak the words, I heard a voice say so loudly: ‘Who are you even praying to?!’“
Completely startled, Carrie found herself blowing out the candles before disrobing and going to bed.
She even went to church, but only to show the pastor “nothing is gonna happen”. However, while there she had a conversation with God, asking him how on earth he could love her after all the evil she’d performed. Then “I felt the warmest, most loving embrace of peace and love wrap around me… an all-compassing hug. I’d not felt anything like it before. I felt the clutches of darkness release from inside me.”
Tearful Carrie told the preacher: “I’m a witch, and I don’t want this anymore!”
“As I surrendered to Christ, what I now recognise as demonic spirits I’d entangled myself with had to flee from the presence of Jesus.”
Carrie Concludes By Sharing Thoughts On Halloween:
She now devotes her life to warning others about the danger of the occult and events such as Halloween.
She says:“People string these decorations up and dress their children up, but it’s dangerous. Some may laugh at that idea, or think it is being hateful or ridiculous to make such a big deal of this, but it truly is a big deal.”
Carrie explains: “You are opening a door by what you watch, what you listen to, what you allow in your life and home. If you put on a movie portraying witchcraft as innocent, or it is speaking spells, then you are accepting the very things that God speaks against.
“I don’t take lightly the fact that evil powers can sneak in, and neither should anyone. Be careful of what you allow and expose yourself and your children to. God doesn’t warn us off these things because he wants to keep you from fun, but because he loves you and wants you to experience his peace and joy.”

If you don’t allow your child to go into chat rooms on their computers talking to imposters, whom lie about their identity and motives, why would you allow your child to talk to spirits that lie about their identity, AND motives? They are both dangerous. One thing that makes them different is that the spirit is impossible to keep out of your home while they are being invited in.
If you won’t allow a stranger in your home, why on earth would you open the door wide open and invite a spirit in through these apps! These spirits are NOT who they claim to be. If you ever seen a demon in its truest form, you would never sit down at a table and initiate a conversation with them!’

Mark commented on the phone apps too. “I get emails promoting these devices regularly and as you said they’re extremely dangerous!”
Dana added, “Everything now days is so convenient and right at your fingertips! Grocery shopping, paying bills, playing bingo and other “card games”.. but now going to a psychic, or ghost hunting could not be easier! And no need to buy all the expensive ghost hunting gadgets.. now it’s all in your palm of your hand.. in your phone… and most of it is FREE!!
My question isn’t “Why are kids doing these things?”, my question is, “WHY NOT”?? If they are not equipped with knowledge of the truth about the danger involved, chances are, they are very likely to dabble with it!

I talked today about the Occult to the same high school group I spoke to last week on the New Age. (See CANA post on Points on the New Age at https://tinyurl.com/5b56w79m).
The New Age and the occult are not the same but they easily overlap in some beliefs and practices. These are some of the highlighted points on the Occult.
The Occult is a set of practices aligned with different beliefs; it is not a belief system itself although its practices are based on certain worldviews such as:
1. There is hidden meaning in creation and in images, numbers, words, or there are codes hidden in written texts (the Bible Code is an example of this; it swept through the church a few decades ago)
2. One can contact disembodied beings (the dead, angels, aliens, those in alleged other dimensions of reality, spirit animals)
3. One gains special knowledge and wisdom through what is found in hidden meanings and through contact with the disembodied
4. One can alter reality with the mind, words, and rituals
5. Healing can come via the use of invisible, non-measurable forces (these can be called vibrations, frequencies, magnetic energies, etc. and are common in the New Age as well).
6. Alleged healing is a large component of both the New Age and the occult and is mainstreaming in the culture and being accepted and used in the church.
Healing Points
Energy healing is not just the use of hands to heal but also the use of machines that supposedly read the body, diagnose, and/or treat through vibrations or frequencies.
Energy healing like Reiki, Healing Hands, Healing Touch, and others is an occult practice that most closely falls into the category of sorcery. See CANA post at https://tinyurl.com/msdd3ddh
Healing also includes practices based on belief in invisible non-measurable supposed energy such as chi/qi (acupuncture, shiatsu, reflexology, Tapping/EFT, Qigong, and others). The energy may be called the Life Force, Vital Force, Vital Energy, universal energy, prana, magnetic energy, bioenergy, or other names.
Applied Kinesiology (Muscle Testing) is based on energy beliefs and uses the body as a divinatory tool.
Using objects for healing based on beliefs in a hidden power or energy in the object that has not been factually verified. This includes using crystals, stones, or other objects for supposed healing.
This energy is part of most pagan belief systems and is always based on beliefs opposed to God.
Deuteronomy 18:10-11 lists all the practices of the occult. They can be divided into three categories which can overlap:
1. Divination: Often called fortunetelling, includes astrology, Tarot cards, numerology, the I Ching, Runes, dowsing, and others. For example, Tarot cards are one of many forms of divination, which is forbidden by God. Divination is reading hidden meaning into creation, images, or numbers and/or gaining information via supernatural means through certain methods or spirits. 2. Spirit Contact: Contact with disembodied beings
3. Sorcery/Magic: Practices that attempt to channel or harness powers from spirit beings; gods or goddesses; perceived powers in nature; and/or objects believe to contain or channel power. Using these methods for supposed healing is also sorcery. Sorcery would include according to this definition casting spells (although be aware that Wiccans and witches do not use this word and consider sorcery to be related to ritual and ceremonial magic, which they do not do) as well as making potions. Trying to alter reality or manifest something in reality with methods believed to be beyond the natural or believed to be in contact with the supernatural or with spirits is sorcery.
DEUTERONOMY 18: 10-12: There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; and because of these detestable things the Lord your God will drive them out before you.
