To The Christian Paranormal Community

‘To my beloved brothers and sisters in the Paranormal Community, I say this with complete loving kindness and humility, but yet I must stand on Gods absolute truth, as this is what God tells us to do.

We are living in a time in which there has been an explosion of interest in the Occult and the “paranormal”. We can turn on our television set at almost any time of the day, and you will be able to find something on, related to the paranormal.

Whether it be ghost hunting, psychic and mediums, children and the paranormal, haunted objects, haunted houses, haunted pets, or demonic possessions, our society has become totally consumed, and driven by a unhealthy fascination with the paranormal. In turn, this fascination has caused demonic oppression across our land that far exceeds human understanding.

We, as humans, do not have the power to wage war against demonic spirits and get victory, outside of Jesus Christ. It is only through Him, that we may have authority over the enemy.

First, I would like to say, that I too used to be a paranormal investigator for many years, in fact, I had my own paranormal investigation team.

I grew up in church, and always believed in Jesus Christ from a very early age. So when I was in the paranormal field, I identified myself as a Christian, that wanted to help others that were suffering attacks and oppression from demonic spirits, or “ghosts”. (Which now I know, in light of scripture, that there is no such thing as “earthbound spirits”, as they are all demonic spirits, which masquerade as earthbound spirits.)

But besides my desire to help others, I also had a very unhealthy fascination with the paranormal, which I have found to also be the case with pretty much all the paranormal investigators that I knew personally. (Although it is very common for investigators to deny this.) It would be foolish to deny that there is indeed a “thrill of the hunt” factor to it.

When I was into paranormal research, I truly had a genuine concern about the people that were being tormented and haunted, as I am sure many of you do. But, it is my plea to you, that if you identify as a “Christian”, and have a genuine concern about other people, to please stop using occult techniques and practices, all in the name of “helping others.”

I know that some of you will most likely accuse me of being uncaring and judgmental, but please know that since I too was in the paranormal field, and I can relate. I had others warn me by telling me that these “spirits” that I was interacting with, was in fact demons, (familiar spirits) and that what I was doing, was actually an abomination in the eyes of a God.

When they would lovingly share bible verses with me to validate their claims, I somehow felt that what I was doing was not the same as what those bible verses were referring to, and that perhaps, God overlooked these things today, as now we have the atonement of Jesus Christ and that He would not hold it against me. I felt that “as long as I was genuinely trying to help others”, then I would somehow be excused by God of using such practices in the process, and I would escape His wrath.

I also felt that since society had changed so much since the Bible was recorded, I foolishly assumed that since society had changed, that that meant that God also had changed.

As I look back, if I had it all to do over again I would’ve never become involved in paranormal research. My involvement with the paranormal research began when I had a paranormal experience, in which I “thought” it was my deceased grandfather, and I began to question the afterlife.

Where I went wrong, was when I did not go to God in prayer, and to His Word for the truth. But instead, I “looked for truth” at the local library and bookstores, reading books by those that were in the paranormal research community.

And, as part of my “research”, I also looked for answers directly from these demonic spirits (familiar spirits) via divination (using divining tools such as dowsing rods, pendulums, etc.) and necromancy (EVP recording and analysis, seances, ouija boards, etc.) and photographic images, and video recordings.

The error in this was, I was actually “consulting familiar spirits” instead of seeking God for the truth.

Scripture tells us:

Isaiah 8:19-20 KJV
[19] And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? [20] To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

We should always seek to obtain truth from God, in His Word. He is a jealous God, and He is a just God. And He changes not.

We can not “trust” what these spirits (demons) tell us. The Bible tells us that Satan is the “father of lies, and that there is NO truth in him.

John 8:42-47 KJV
[42] Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. [43] Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. [44] Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. [45] And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. [46] Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? [47] He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

As Christians, God’s Word should always be our final authority in all things. God’s Word is sufficient, and tells us all we need to know, including things of the spirit and the afterlife. We should aim to please God. Not look for ways to excuse our behavior, but we should genuinely want to be obedient to Him. If we love Him, we will want to obey Him and his commandments to us.

We should pray, and let the Holy Spirit lead us. But we must remember, the Holy Spirit would never lead us to do anything against God’s written word. We must test all things with God’s Word. Does it contradict God’s Word? Anything that contradicts God’s Word, be sure it is of the enemy.

My previous involvement with paranormal investigations resulted in my family and I becoming demonically oppressed and tormented. This is very common with paranormal investigators. Although it may take some time before it becomes evident, it will eventually happen in time. (Sin is only pleasurable for a season)
Hebrews 11:25 KJV
[25] Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

This happens as a result of our rebellion and disobedience to God. When we are disobedient to His Word, we are leaving His “umbrella of protection”. While we commit these practices we are opening ourselves up to demonic oppression.

It would be an oxymoron to even think we could possibly “help others” while subjecting ourselves, and them, to further demonic oppression. Many believe these investigations are within the “biblical scope of practice”. But they are not looking at scripture for their basis of reasoning.

Another concern with those that are dabbling in these occult practices, is their lack of true authority in Christ, while attempting Deliverance/ exorcisms on the “clients” that are under demonic oppression. If we are “in Christ”, we would be in complete submission to Him. There is a difference between “believing Jesus is real”, and believing “on Him”.

We cannot walk in darkness while confessing Christ with our lips. If we regard iniquity in our hearts, God will not hear our prayers. (Psalm 66:18) We must be a true follower of Christ, to have true authority over demonic spirits. (Acts 19:11-20)

We cannot be conformed by this world and the ways of the world, and be a true servant of God.

Romans 12:2 KJV
[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

There are indeed people that are tormented by paranormal activity in their homes, and as Christians, we should address it in a biblical fashion.

We should counsel the person that is oppressed and under demonic torment, and let the Holy Spirit lead us and reveal to us (and them) any open doors, via occult practices, generational curses, ungodly soul ties, drug/alcohol addictions, cursed objects in home, etc. so we can lovingly share the truth with them (with scripture), about these open doors and help lead them to salvation, and pray deliverance prayers with them, and cast the demons out! We should never “consult with a demon”, via voice recorders, photos, or any other means, and the reason for this is because it simply isn’t biblical, or necessary!

It is with every fiber of my being, to plea with you, to repent and leave such practices. We are living in a time like no other. The spiritual world is indeed real, and our society is in big trouble. We need the church to come together, and choose this day whom they will serve. Make up our minds to submit to Christ, and follow Him.

Matthew 9:35-38 KJV
[35] And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. [36] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. [37] Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; [38] Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
