Burning Ouija Board and Witchcraft Paraphernalia

Many new believers in Christ speak out on the horrors they witnessed during their time in the occult, and especially the significance of these events on Halloween night. As an ex-occultist myself, I have joined in with one of the many thousands of seances happening around the world on the night of, and days surrounding, Halloween. We are called to be the light amongst the dark. We are supposed to bring news of life over death,’ wrote Demi, an Ex Satanist.
I asked Demi to write an article on Halloween. As an Ex Spiritualist, I, Laura Maxwell, share her views. Like her, when I left the occult and came to Jesus, I was utterly shocked and dismayed how many Christians practice, or are indifferent to Halloween, Day Of The Day, and similar events around this season.
A Christian’s Involvement In Halloween.
We are approaching that time of year where the nights get darker, our clothes get thicker, and the movies get spookier. With this, comes that often dividing, question as to whether or not Christians should celebrate Halloween. Is it all just a bit of harmless fun for the kids? Is it ok to dress up as long as the costumes are not horror-related? Or should we stay away altogether?
One of the first major changes that came to my heart after I left the occult was that I no longer desired to be involved with anything horror related: no more scary movies, no more dark clothing and especially no more Halloween.
No one had told me this is how I ought to live my life now that I was living for Christ, rather this is how God had worked in me.
The closer I drew to God, the more His spirit convicted me of anything that was not pure, or life giving, or glorifying to Him.
And the more I read scripture, the more this conviction was backed up by The Word itself. In Ephesians 5:11 we read, ‘Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them’ and ‘Be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own’ (Leviticus 20:26).
The message of being ‘set apart’ from the ways of the world and to be the ‘light’ is emphasised by God time and time again.We are told to do everything for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31) and so once I discovered the participation of Halloween was a debate amongst Christians, I was shocked!
It only takes one glance down the Halloween decoration aisle to see what is being glorified by this celebration; I do not see the Glory of God in a disfigured and demonic mask, nor do I see His Light being displayed by the celebration of death and darkness.
Though it is not the fake spiders, monstrous pumpkins or even the creepy masks that make Halloween an unfruitful holiday. Behind the ‘innocent fun’ of trick-or-treating, free sweets and costume parties, is a celebration rooted in paganism, satanic rituals, witchcraft and sacrifices. These may sound like fictional tales or acts of the past, but it is an important truth that Christians should be aware of.
Even to this day, many new believers in Christ are speaking out on the horrors they witnessed during their time in the occult, and especially the significance of these events on Halloween night. As an ex-occultist myself I have joined in with one of the many thousands of seances happening around the world on the night of, and days surrounding, Halloween.
If you’re a Christian looking for a way to get involved with Halloween this year, here is what you can do: PRAY!
- Pray for the children, adults and animals who are being sacrificed.
- Pray for the lost souls involved in all forms of witchcraft and the occult.
- Pray for the confused and broken hearted trying to reconnect with their dead loved ones.
- And pray for the children who pass your door.
If you choose to engage with them, turn this into a Gospel opportunity. How can you show them Jesus in the midst of their darkness?
We are called to be the light amongst the dark. We are supposed to bring news of life over death. But you don’t have to listen to me, or any ex-occultist who shares their story online or in the media. I pray if you are seeking guidance on this subject, that you read The Word for yourself and bring it before God. For I am convinced that the God of Isaiah 5:20 is the same God of today.
‘Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.’
