Beware of Gnosticism in the Church
By Ariel Abornski.
This article is an excerpt from Ariel’s upcoming book, Shrewd as Serpents: Exposing the Enemy’s World Wide Web of Deception in the Church. By exploring the Ancient Mystery Religions, Hinduism, Gnosticism, New Age Spirituality, and Progressive Christianity, Shrewd as Serpents exposes the occult deceit of evil spirits that will cause an appalling end-time apostasy within Christianity. These deceptions will help precipitate and initiate the world into Antichrist mysticism, the syncretized blend of all esoteric spiritualities.
Gnosticism is the religion of Lucifer, alleging that the superior knowledge (gnosis) one receives from encounters with the serpentine realm can bring one to godhood. Adherents of this belief system do not seek the wisdom that comes from God’s Word, but rather, they look to esoteric revelation, available only for elite insiders during revelatory practices such as divination, deep meditation trances and so on. They attain this dark information from spiritual contact with Lucifer and spirit guides, and they prize these mystical experiences—where they feel at one with the universe and with the light of Lucifer—above the Scriptures, doctrine, and tradition.
Beginning in the second century AD, Gnosticism became a prominent, heretical movement that was an amalgamation of many ancient, luciferian mystery religions. Various sects of Gnostics drew their worldview, cosmologies, and philosophies from the ancient mystery religions of India, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, etc. In his book, Refutation of all Heresies Book 5, chapter 2, Church Father Hippolytus lists the various cults from which the Gnostics gleaned their doctrine when they attended the mystical rites of pagans. He says,
“[L]et us come to the mystic rites…of both the Barbarian and Grecian (mysteries),—and let us see how these (heretics), collecting together the secret and ineffable mysteries of all the Gentiles, are uttering falsehoods against Christ, and are making dupes of those who are not acquainted with these orgies of the Gentiles.”[1] (Emphasis mine).
Serpentine philosophy was at the heart of Gnosticism. Of the Naassene Gnostic sect (who derived their name from the Hebrew naas, which means serpent), Hippolytus says that they
“Presumed to celebrate a serpent, the originator of the error….These (Naassene)…magnify…a man and a son of man. And this man is a hermaphrodite (bisexual, androgynous)” [2]
Thus, Gnosticism, the antithesis of Christianity, is another version of the pagan mystery religions, a syncretized blend of Christianity and Luciferianism. It has been bathed in Christian terminology and adorned with select verses of Scripture, which have been twisted to suit the occult philosophy of our mortal enemy. One Gnostic sect (the Peratae), redefining Christian terms, refers to the serpent as the word and the logos.[3]
We tend to think of the serpent in the Garden of Eden as male, but this entity was considered to have been female, androgynous (bisexual), or asexual. Lucifer was eventually given the label, satan, which has a meaning similar to adversary, because this being was considered to be the ‘mother of all adversaries’.
John Lamb Lash is a Gaian shaman (sorcerer) and gnostic teacher who claims to have mystical encounters with Sophia—whom he states is the true Lucifer,[4] wherein the goddess converses with him. Mr. Lash is also a comparative mythologist who has looked at myths from all over the world and has analyzed many creation legends. He says that the meditational encounters with Lucifer’s light were at the heart of the experiences and enlightenment of the ancient mystery religions, which were kept secret from the uninitiated.
The vow to not describe this light…was a way to protect that experience, but those initiates knew that at a certain time in the future, it would be necessary to come out and say openly and publicly what the organic light is [Gaia, Sophia, Lucifer, Kundalini] and how that experience is accessible to every person on earth. That is the most intimate access we can have to the earth itself because that light is actually the emanation of the goddess Sophia herself…as a divine being….It’s a unique phenomenon to be encountered in a heightened state [a meditative altered state of consciousness]….It was through their direct relationship to that light that they became initiates, and they carried on the great teaching and visionary practices of those mysteries….In the experience and power and wisdom of that light comes the magic for our own process.”[5]
Throughout history, the occult realm has been kept hidden from the majority of the world, but in these end-times, spiritualism (contact with evil spirits and the worship of angels) has come out of the closet and into the open in order to set up the kingdom of the antichrist. This prince of darkness will use the sorcerous power of the satanic realm to perform signs and wonders, which will draw people away from the church into apostasy. I believe we are currently in the midst of this great falling away, in which the Kundalini serpent power is portraying itself as the Holy Spirit in Pentecostal and Charismatic churches of the Word of Faith/New Apostolic Reformation persuasion.
*If you are interested in the Word of Faith New Apostolic Reformation, I’ve written a book titled Deliver Us from Addiction: Confessions of an Alcoholic’s Wife in the Word of Faith New Apostolic Reformation, which is available on Amazon. I’ve provided a link below. If you would like to learn how the Hindu Kundalini power is being manifested in many Christian churches, a link to my video on Antichrist Signs and Wonders is also provided below.
Just as a loving parent will implement rules or place internet restrictions on their WiFi to protect children from the destructive aspects of the Internet (such as pornographic sites), our God has given us regulations to safeguard us from the deceit of evil spirits. The Lord wants to shield us from devilish beings (which appear as angels of light), who peddle deceitful and wicked knowledge and who promote Satan’s magic power to us.
In the Scriptures, God warns against using occult practices, such as divination (fortune telling, tarot cards, scrying, reading tea leaves, using an ouija board, automatic handwriting—where a person holds a writing utensil as a spiritual entity controls the movement, etc.), necromancy (seeking the counsel of the alleged dead), astrology (horoscopes, zodiac signs), sorcery (using demonic power, and/or contacting spirits through meditation), witchcraft (worshiping nature, using demonic power, casting spells), human sacrifice (placing one’s child into the fire of a demonic god to procure favor and power), seeking mediums who channel spirits, interpreting omens, etc. When one delves into any of these forbidden practices, demons and fallen angels have an opening to come into his/her life.
“When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. “There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. “For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you. “You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 18:9–13 NASB
As with Hinduism, from which Gnosticism derived many of its beliefs, initiates are to practice eastern meditation and have ‘their ego deconstructed’ in order to connect with the spiritual realm and ‘realize one’s divinity’. Sophia is the mother goddess in Gnosticism, but in the common religion of India, she is known as Kundalini. In an article titled Introduction to Gnostic Meditation, based on the teachings of Samael Aun Weor, we learn:
“Just as with Hinduism, the goal of Gnostic meditation is to dissolve the ego, to comprehend that we are god, to gain inner knowledge, to supplicate the divine mother, Kundalini, and to recognize that we are all one, regardless of race or religion.[6]
John Lamb Lash links the myths of Gnosticism with the ancient mystery cults, from which Hinduism appears to have derived its main doctrines.
“The practice of the ancient pagan mysteries was based on a story, the myth of the Aeon Sophia….The mysteries were guided by this myth. People taught and shared this myth, and it was the foundation of their whole vision of life.”[7]
The basic pagan myth of Sophia (of which there are many inconsistent and discordant variations) is an attempt to address how the universe was created and why there is suffering in the world. Before the world was created, there was a transcendent (above and beyond everything), invisible, ineffable (unable to be described) unknowable, androgynous (bisexual) god-force. The first thought (the feminine principle) that emerged from this Unknown Father became the Mother god, and their son was called the Logos. This triad (three part godhead) never created anything, but rather, all the lower aeons (gods and goddesses) flowed out of its divine essence.
In the pleroma (the fullness and center of the divine beings outside of time and space), there were up to 15 pairs of swirling, serpent like vortices of energy called aeons which had emanated from the unknowable god. Sophia, a lower aeon who wanted to possess the creative power and knowledge of the unknowable god, fantasized of constructing a different world. While in this dreamstate, the two universal energies ( known as the yin and yang, the masculine and feminine, the light and dark) were out of balance because she wasn’t in harmony with her consort. This caused her to fall and become severed from the pleroma.
Interestingly, Gnostics consider the bisexual person, who plays both male and female sex roles, to be more harmoneous and balanced, (closer to godhood) than those who are heterosexual. Dr. Peter Jones, MDic, ThM, PhD, tells us that wherever pagan spirituality has dominated, there is a greater population of those who pursue alternative sexual lifestyles. In his book, Spirit Wars; Pagan Revival in Christian America, we learn:
“It is well-documented that pagan religion has always held a special place for androgyny/homosexuality.”[8]
Saying 22 of the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas says,
“Jesus said to them: When you make the two one, and you make the inside as the outside and the outside as the inside, when you make the above as the below, and if you make the male and the female one and the same (united male and female) so that the man will not be masculine (male) and the female will not be feminine (female),…then you will enter the Kingdom.”[9]
In an article titled Androgyny, the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, we are told,
“[I]t should not be surprising to note that the revival of pagan religion in our day is accompanied by a powerful reappearance of pagan sexuality….at the heart of pagan monism [the belief that all is one] is a mystical, unitive experience, a state in which distinctions disappear and opposites are joined….Androgyny, on the sexual level, reflects and confirms such an experience….The distinctions between the sexes are erased: the two merge into an androgynous whole….sexual perversion, and in particular the elimination of sexual distinctions, is not an incidental footnote of pagan religious history, of mere passing interest, but represents one of its fundamental ideological commitments….The androgyne is thus the physical symbol of the pagan spiritual goal, which is the merging of two seemingly distinct entities, the self and God, and a mystical return to the state of godhead prior to creation.[10]
The goal of Gnostic sexuality is androgyny, the blending of male and female in one human being. According to this belief system, the distinction of male and female is the result of the Fall, and so to undo the effects of the Fall, one must join the opposites and make the two one. In saying 22, The “Jesus” of The Gnostic Gospel of Thomas declares,
“when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female . . . then you will enter the kingdom of heaven.”
This is in contrast to the Bible, where Paul tells us that those who harden their hearts toward God will turn to homosexuality.
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. Romans 1:26-27 NASB
Let us return to the Sophianic myth. In ignorance, Sophia (whose name means wisdom, ironically) plummeted from the pleroma without her partner and accidentally emanated Yaldabaoth (Son of Chaos). Depending on which myth one is reading, the archons / demons were either spawned during her descent, or by produced Yaldabaoth, who is depicted as an ignorant, blind Demiurge (half-maker or public builder) who never should have existed. This bloodthirsty tyrant is promulgated to be an imbecile and is portrayed as the God of the Old Testament. He created the physical realm, a disastrous, chaotic mistake. Gnostics believe the material universe is evil, that this world is a prison, and that our corporeal bodies keep us in a state of confinement.
In the myth of Sophia, a celestial light named Christos (one of the aeons) was sent from the abode of the Aeons to Sophia’s aid, and the goddess aligned her power with the new born star, which is our sun. Together they condemned Yaldabaoth and banished him from the pleuroma. In order to redeem her part in creating this ignorant fool, Sophia materialized as the earth and became known as Gaia.
The Demiurge and archons captured the aeon in the inorganic planetary system, and she became a suffering goddess (with whom humanity can identify). Yaldabaoth and the demons then formed Adam and Eve into automatons, trapped in worm-like, material bodies of flesh. Some sects maintain that Sophia emplanted a divine spark of godhood inside of Adam, and mankind will ultimately be used to rescue the goddess and to destroy the disillusionment of the ignorant Creator of the material world.
Adam and Eve were unable to realize that they had godlike power, a spark of Sophia’s divinity. Yaldabaoth enslaved them in the Garden of Eden and forbade them to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil because He wanted to keep them in the dark about who they really were, god-like beings with creative powers.
Gaia Sophia channeled herself through the serpent in the Garden of Eden to enlighten Eve of her inner spark of divinity, offering salvation through mystical knowledge. In Gnostic literature, the serpent is the wise savior, and the God of the Bible is an evil, arrogant dictator. This is a seductive inversion of the historical account which we find in the Bible. It is designed to make people believe that Sophia/Lucifer was a luminous, divine being who came to deliver mankind from Yahweh.
Gnostic initiates believe that messengers of light (spirit guides) are sent to people to awaken us to our divinity. But in reality, by using eastern meditation, initiates come into contact with fallen angels or demons, which is a type of sorcery. These spirit guides claim that Jesus didn’t really come in the flesh, but that He only gave the appearance of having a corporeal body. The Apostle John refuted the antichrist spirit of this wicked belief system when he said:
By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. 1 John 4:2-3 NASB (Emphasis mine)
Some Gnostics put forth that the Aeon Christos was dispatched to embody Jesus, while others claim that Sophia, as the Holy Spirit, entered Jesus when He was baptized in the Jordan River. They allege that Jesus wasn’t God until He attained Christ consciousness. Rather than suffering a substitutionary death on our behalf so we can be saved, they believe that His purpose was to give us the liberating gnosis of our divine origin so we can be redeemed from the tangible cosmos.
According to the Gnostics, archons work together with Yaldabaoth to keep people in a state of illusion. This ignorance is considered to be sin. If a person doesn’t become awakened to his divinity before he dies, his soul will go through transmigration where his divine spark will be thrown back into a material body. As with Hinduism and other occult religions, one is then said to become reincarnated and enslaved in this world again. The soul is recycled over and over until the individual is awakened to the saving awareness of his godhood. Then the soul can ascend to become a purely spiritual being, an ascended master or god.
Gnostics maintain that the God of the Old Covenant was not Jesus’ father, and therefore, they reject the Old Testament. While some sects of this religion hold that they need to live an ascetic lifestyle, denying the physical body, others feel that they should break the Ten Commandments in order to defy the Old Testament God. They suppose that systems of ethics and morality (as in rules) originated with the Demiurge and are underhandedly designed to keep Him above mankind.
In rebellion against the Hebrew Creator, some Gnostics consider it beneficial to indulge in homosexuality, perform sorcery, eat pork, work on the Sabbath, commit adultery, worship angels, etc. According to Wikipedia, an early church father wrote against the Cainite sect of Gnosticism,
“Hippolytus claims that they [Cainite Gnostics] believed that indulgence in sin was the key to salvation because since the body is evil, one must defile it through immoral activity.”[11]
Gnostics think the God who says “Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not lie, do not steal, and keep your promises even when it hurts” is evil. In opposition to the Bible, they admire Cain, the firstborn son of Adam and Eve, who rebelled against Yahweh and aligned with Sophia, eventually murdering his righteous brother, Abel. Church Father Irenaeus tells us about some Gnostics:
“Others again declare that Cain derived his being from the Power above, and acknowledge that Esau, Korah, the Sodomites, and all such persons are related to themselves.”[12]
Irenaeus also says of the Gnostics,
“The ‘most perfect’ among them addict themselves without fear to all those kinds of forbidden deeds of which the Scriptures assure us that ‘they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.’ For instance, they make no scruple about eating meats (sic) offered to idols…Then, again, at every heathen festival celebrated in honour of idols, these men are the first to assemble….Others of them yield themselves up to the lusts of the flesh with the utmost greediness, maintaining that carnal things should be allowed to the carnal nature…Some of these, moreover, are in the habit of defiling those women whom they have taught the above doctrine, as has frequently been confessed by those women who have been led astray by certain of them, on their returning to the Church of God.”[13]
Just as some forms of Hinduism teach intentional violation of morals by the deliberate practice of wickedness, and spirit guides in New Age Spirituality teach that the conscience must be eroded by committing evil acts, many Gnostic initiates believe we should emulate Esau, Korah, the men of Sodom, and Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus. They think the good biblical figures—such as Abraham, Moses, the prophets, eleven of the disciples, and Paul—are evil, even though these men taught sacrificial love, kindness, faithfulness, humility, trustworthiness, honesty, etc.
Not only did the Gnostics engage in every type of immorality which the Scriptures warn against, but the church fathers tell us that they practiced divination, and astrology, they used the power of demons to prophesy, do magic signs and wonders, and they utilised spells, invocations, and incantations. In addition, these heretics attended orgies, festivals dedicated to idols, and secret initiation rites of Pagans.
In the first centuries after Jesus died, adherents of Gnosticism set themselves up against the true Christian message and continually tried to infiltrate the church to spread their heresies. Gnostic John Lamb Lash, who views Christians as insane, tells us,
“[T]he Gnostic protest…was a frontal response to the mass-scale dementia [Christianity] that burst upon the world at the dawn of the Piscean Age [of Jesus]….By contrast to salvationism [through a redeemer], the Mystery religions…were dedicated to continual rebonding with the ecstatic life force, Eros, and grounding in the life source, Gaia.[14]
In an article titled, Gnosticism, Dan Graves tells us of Gnostic gospels by Thomas, Judas, John, Peter, etc.,
“Gnosticism was largely an attack on historical Christianity or an attempt to infiltrate or undermine it. Gnostics quoted from or alluded to most of the writings which entered our New Testament and wrote in opposition to them or distorted them. In order to entice Christians into accepting their books, Gnostics made out that the books were written by apostles or other famous figures from the Gospels and Acts. In other words, they forged them.”[15]
In Not in His Image, John Lamb Lash mentions the anti-Christian elements of The Second Treatise of the Great Seth, a Nag Hammadi scroll which was found in December, 1945.
“Once its key features are detected, the Gnostic protest against Judeo-Christian redemptive religion stands out more and more clearly as an informing motiv of the entire corpus….The Second Treatise of the Great Seth warned that salvationism is a plan devised against the guardians of Gnosis, whose enemies ‘release upon the world their Error and their senselessness.’”[16]
On page 112 of Not in His Image, John Lamb Lash quotes gnostic scholar Karl-Wolfgang Troger:
“The Second Treatise… contains page after page of scathing attacks on Judaic and Christian beliefs and customs. It ridicules the biblical forefathers and castigates those who follow patriarchal religion…” Karl-Wolfgang Troger, “The Attitude of Gnostic Religion towards Judaism as Viewed in a Variety of Perspectives,”[17]
As with most occult religions, such as Hinduism and Wiccanism, Gnosticism contradicts Christianity regarding sin, alleging that there is no sin except that of being unaware of one’s divinity. Adherents of this belief system make the assertion that the second coming of Christ is not about the physical return of Jesus to the earth, but rather, it happens when we each personally achieve Christ consciousness, a state of enlightenment where we become aware that we are gods.
Gnostics deny a cataclysmic end to the earth and do not believe in a final battle between good and evil. Rather, they allege that when a high percentage of the earth’s population attains liberating gnosis and ascends to godhood, we will help the planet to ascend. Those who refuse to come to an awareness of our divinity, choosing to remain in ignorance, are guilty of hindering Gaia’s ascension. At the summation of all things, when spiritual men have been initiated into the mysteries of Gnosticism and have become perfected by Gnosis, Sophia will pass back into the Pleroma.
Gnostics do not think we should accept the Bible literally. Rather than taking the Scriptures at face value, they look for allegorical and secret, hidden meanings, which they consider to be special revelation for a select few. This is in contrast to what Jesus said.
Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world; I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and I spoke nothing in secret. John 18:20 NASB
God doesn’t work through secret groups of elitists, but brings the gospel to the common man. He doesn’t hide special revelation from the majority, isn’t willing that any should perish, and sends us out as missionaries to share His message of salvation with the world. After Jesus told the parable of the shepherd who left the 99 sheep to look for one lost lamb, He said,
“So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish. Matthew 18:14 NASB
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples were commissioned to be missionaries.
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Mark 16:15 NASB (Emphasis mine)
And Peter tells us,
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 NASB (Emphasis mine)
In comparison to the Gnostic Gospels, the four main Gospels of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), were recognized by church leaders to be Scriptural before the end of the first century. Dr. Michael Heiser, recent Scholar-in-Residence for the world’s leading Bible software company, Logos Bible Software, who has an M.A. and Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Semitic Studies, a B.A. in History and Bible, and an M.A. in Ancient History (Canaan, Egyptology), tells us that the Gospels were most likely written between 50 and 80 AD. He also says,
“There was a consensus about which gospels correctly preserved the story [of Jesus]. The early church almost immediately recognized what we know as the four.”[18]
The four New Testament Gospels have a 100% rate of prophetic success, although some prophecies in the end-times haven’t come to pass yet, while the Gnostic literature has zero fulfilled prophecies. Unlike the discordant myths of the Nag Hammadi scrolls, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John give us verifiable historical accounts which include names of places and people that have been confirmed by archeologists. There is an agreement and uniformity amongst these Scriptures that we don’t find in the Gnostic material. Dr. Michael Heiser says,
“The Gnostic Gospels don’t all agree about who Jesus was and what he said and where we went and what he did. There are disagreements. They do not match perfectly.”[19]
Gnostics have chosen to follow factitious stories and have fallen for Lucifer’s lie that Yahweh, who knows the end from the beginning and can accurately predict the future 100% of the time, is ignorant. All this so they can cling to the serpent’s seductive deception: that they have a divine spark within themselves and are, therefore, gods.
Should we trust an idolatrous religious system in which the gods give secret knowledge that is not meant to be available to everyone, wherein lying and indulging in all manner of evil deeds is applauded, and in which there are no accurate prophecies that foretell the future? Shall we place our faith in a goddess whose ignorance led to her fall, who had no foreknowledge of where her dreaming would lead, who is not all-knowing and cannot tell the end from the beginning?
How is this relevant for Christians today? Unfortunately, like the Gnostics, there are ‘Christian’ leaders who suggest that there will be no apocalyptic end to the earth, that we shouldn’t read the book of Revelation or be concerned with the end-times, that we should be in contact with angels, and that there are many paths to God. These wolves in sheep’s clothing suggest that there is no literal hell, that everyone on earth (including those who reject Jesus) can experience the presence of God in their sorcerous meditation, and that we shouldn’t preach the cross or teach the Old Testament. They tell their congregations to walk the labyrinths of Pagans, to go within oneself in silence and solitude in order to practice the contemplative meditation of Gnostics, and to use shamanic visualization to speak with (fallen) angels.
Pastors and churches are being taken in by Gnosticism and are turning to mystical experiences by using the meditational techniques of the ancient mystery cults. We need to be vigilant to know the truth of God’s Word and must be like the Bereans, weighing everything we are taught against the Scriptures. We should be careful not to believe every doctrine promoted by material we find in Christian bookstores and on Christian websites, for amid many good teachings, we will find books that popularize Gnostic heresies. One by one, our evangelical churches are falling like dominoes, following esoteric teachings that sound wonderful, but are of the mystery religions, redressed Luciferianism that has been given a Christian wardrobe.

Oops!!! Sorry for disturbing you. I am just a lone visitor searching for truth. My hacked device took me here. No doubt we are ALL eventually destined to find truth or perish. Irregardless I send you love, peace, and understanding. Until we meet again!
Amy And please forgive whatever computer hacking program led me to your devices. The authors of chaos be-lieve they are doing good; at least from my limited understanding. Please correct me if I am wrong. For I seek to spread LOVE & WISDOM to ALL!!!

Hi Amy, don’t worry girl! However, although it was a computer error, I don’t believe in coincidences and there are probably one or more articles on my blog that would be significant for you. Thank you for stopping by again. Much love to you dear lady!
